Handwriting Without Tears
"Roll-A-Dough" Letters
Students will create the letter of the week using play doh. Each child will be supplied with a card that has the letter on it. We will discuss the parts of the letter (long line, short line, little curve, big curve, ect.) They will then put together the parts of doh to create the letter.

Letter Formation
Students each have their own "Get Set for School," book. When they first get to school, after they hang up their book bags, students will each do their worksheet of the day. This consists of writing the letter of the week four times and writing their name.
Differentiation: -Some students will have hand over hand help from an aide. -Some students will trace letters/name -Students with more ability will independently write letters and name |
Mat Man
Mat man is our friend that we make using pieces from different letters. There is a great song that allows the children to take parts adding pieces of his body. This helps us not only have body awareness, but to understand the different terms that handwriting without tears uses for its' pieces so that students can form letters using the wooden pieces.
